A focused digital speedometer

Your speed, clear at a glance

Speedly is a focused GPS speedometer for driving, cycling, and everyday travel. It turns your Android phone into a clean digital speed display with live GPS speed, trip statistics, windshield HUD mode, and configurable speed alerts.

No maps, navigation controls, social features, or account setup between you and the speed display.

01

Real-time GPS speed

A large, high-contrast digital display shows your current speed and GPS signal quality at a glance.

  • km/h, mph, and knots
  • GPS signal quality indicator
  • High-contrast dark dashboard
  • Optional keep-screen-on setting
02

Windshield HUD

Mirror the speed display for windshield reflection at night when the phone is mounted securely.

HUD visibility depends on brightness, windshield angle, ambient light, and dashboard position.

03

Trip statistics

Start, pause, resume, and reset a trip while Speedly calculates the key numbers for you.

  • Trip duration
  • Travel distance
  • Maximum speed
  • Average speed
04

Custom speed alerts

Choose a threshold in your selected unit and control sound and vibration independently.

The alert is a personal reminder, not a legal speed-limit database or replacement for road signs.

05

Private trip history

Save trip summaries locally without storing route coordinates. Delete individual trips whenever you choose.

06

Units, themes, and languages

Choose the speed unit, dashboard accent, and app language that best fit your trip.

Trip statistics

The essentials, without a route recorder

Start, pause, resume, and reset a trip from the main dashboard. Save the summary locally when you finish or discard it.

How to use Speedly

From GPS signal to saved summary

  1. 1

    Get a clear GPS view

Open Speedly outdoors or where the phone has a clear view of the sky, then allow location while using the app.

  2. 2

    Wait for the signal

Let the GPS status improve before moving. Weak reception can make the reading slow to stabilize.

  3. 3

    Choose your setup

Select km/h, mph, or knots, configure alerts, and use HUD only with the phone securely positioned.

  4. 4

    Start and finish the trip

Tap Start to record statistics, then save the summary to local history or discard it when finished.

GPS reception is normally weaker indoors, near tall buildings, under heavy tree cover, or inside some vehicles. The displayed speed may take a few seconds to stabilize after the app opens.

Units, themes, and languages

Set up the dashboard your way

Speedly can follow the device language or use a language selected inside the app.

  • English (United States)
  • German (Germany)
  • French (France)
  • Spanish (Latin America)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Indonesian
  • Thai
  • Traditional Chinese

Location and trip data

Designed with privacy in mind

Speedly uses foreground location to calculate live speed, GPS signal quality, and trip distance. It does not request background location.

  • GPS coordinates are processed only while the app is open.
  • Route coordinates are not stored in trip history.
  • Routes are not uploaded to developer-operated servers.
  • Saved trip summaries remain in app-private storage on the device.
  • Saved trips can be deleted individually.
  • Clearing app data or uninstalling Speedly removes local history and preferences.

Analytics and crash reporting

Speedly uses Google Analytics for Firebase for app launches, screens, and key feature interactions, and Firebase Crashlytics for crash diagnostics. GPS coordinates, speed readings, route points, and saved trip summaries are not sent to Firebase. Advertising ID collection and ad-personalization signals are disabled for Firebase Analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Speedly FAQ

Does Speedly need an account?

No. Speedly does not require registration, login, or a cloud profile.

Does Speedly track location in the background?

No. Speedly requests location only while the app is in use and does not request Android background location permission.

Does Speedly upload my route?

No. Speedly does not upload route coordinates to a developer-operated server and does not store route coordinates in saved trip history.

Why does Speedly need location permission?

Android location data provides GPS speed and movement information. Speedly uses it to display current speed, estimate GPS signal quality, and calculate trip distance.

How accurate is GPS speed?

Accuracy depends on the device, satellite visibility, movement, weather, surrounding buildings, tree cover, and vehicle construction. GPS values can fluctuate or update slowly when the signal is weak.

Can Speedly work without mobile data?

The speedometer uses the device location system rather than an online map or route service. A clear GPS signal is still required, and some devices may acquire a position faster when a network connection is available.

Can I delete saved trips?

Yes. Open History and delete saved trip summaries individually. You can also clear all local app data through Android settings.

What does HUD mode do?

HUD mode mirrors the speed display so it can appear correctly when reflected on a windshield. It works best at night with suitable screen brightness and a securely positioned phone.

Does the speed alert know the road's legal limit?

No. You choose the alert threshold yourself. Speedly does not identify the current road or download legal speed-limit data.

Safety comes first

Do not hold, configure, or interact with the phone while driving. Mount the device securely, keep it outside the driver's direct line of sight, and set up the app before moving. GPS speed may vary with signal quality. Always follow local traffic laws, posted road signs, and the vehicle dashboard as the primary reference.
